Joshimath episode has caught the attention at national and inter national level. From the Uttarakhand government to centre, from political parties to environmentalists , joshimath sinking has become the cause of serious concern. The satellite images of Joshimath by National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has come as a shock to the governments and people alike. ISRO’s preliminary report on land subsidence shows that the entire town may sink in the coming time.

Even as local authorities remain busy evacuating and relocating people, Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samiti has  demanded that a new town be built for those affected due to the land subsidence in the area. Atul Sati, the convenor of the Samiti, requested the government to form a panel of experts in this regard. He however suggested that new town should be on the lines of New Tehri. Navi Mumbai based NGO NatConnect Foundation has suggested for the formation of a Hill Regulation Authority which should work on the lines of the Coastal Regulation Zones (CRZ), with respective State units to check indiscriminate damage to mountains across the country.
