The National Campaign Committee for legislation on construction labour is organsing an all india campaign to save the BOCW boards. The committee has asked construction workers from all over the country to write letters to Prime Minister in this regard.
According to the statement from the national campaign committee the Central Government has proposed enacting four labour codes repealing 44 labour legislation, including the two Building and Other Construction Workers Acts of 1996. The BOCW Acts pertain to providing pension, education assistance for the children of construction workers, medical and maternity expenses and several other benefits to over four crore construction workers families since last two decades though 37 State & UT Boards. The repealing of the BOCW Acts will close down 37 BOCW Boards in all States & UTs and stop the delivery of the above mentioned benefits.
The NCC-CL has decided its plan of action under which letters from construction workers will be submitted along with memorandum to Prime Minister's ofice for intervention.
