The UIDAI's action of filing a First Information Report (FIR) against The Tribune and its reporter Rachna Khaira over an investigative story citing loopholes in the UIDAI’s Aadhaar scheme, continues to evoke strong reactions from various quarters. Days after several press bodies condemned the development, a person from Hissar has urged people to sign his online petition for President Ram Nath Kovind to intervene in the matter.
Raman Mohan from Hisar through Change.org, has urged people to sign his petition asking the government to withdraw the case against the Tribune. Raman writes, "Recently [The Tribune] published a report on serious breach of AADHAR data. Instead of admitting a lapse the UIDAI has registered a criminal case against the newspaper's reporter who wrote the story."
In his petition, Raman said," Recently Tribune published a report on serious breach of AADHAR data. Instead of admitting a lapse the UIDAI has registered a criminal case against the newspaper's reporter who wrote the story. This is a classic example of shooting the messenger." However, he said, "We request the President of India to intervene and urge the government to withdraw the case." More than 2000 people have already signed his petition.
